A global decarbonised economy fuelled largely by wind and solar is coming faster than people might think, but it will only succeed through innovation, new mindsets and the electrification of other energy sectors.

That was the takeaway message from this week’s Eurelectric Power Summit in Ljubljana, Slovenia, which showed clearly that the European utility sector is passionate about achieving its declared goal of becoming carbon neutral “well before” 2050 and is plotting new strategies that would have been unthinkable until very recently.
