A group of European energy-intensive companies spanning the oil, steel and chemicals sectors has called on EU policy makers to back renewable self-consumption.

Ten corporates published a letter calling for barriers to be removed to European companies that want to set up their own supply lines of clean energy.

They said self-consumption allows “large energy consumers in the IT, chemicals, steel, aluminium, glass, concrete and many other energy-intensive industries to secure a supply of clean electricity at a competitive price”.
