Czech energy giant CEZ is among the major European utilities to have pledged to become carbon neutral by 2050 as signatories to Eurelectric’s 2017 Vision document.

But with lignite and hard coal providing 48% of its energy, and most of that lignite coming from its own mines — and the Czech population being generally unfavourable towards renewables — CEZ faces one of the toughest routes to decarbonisation.
