The world needs to increase the speed of renewable energy adoption by at least a factor of six, if it wants to succeed in limiting global temperature rise to two degrees Celsius by 2050 as foreseen in the Paris climate accord, the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena) said in an updated report.

Another finding of Irena’s Global Energy Transformation: A Roadmap to 2050 report was that increasing cumulative energy system investment by 30% until 2050 in favour of renewable energy and energy efficiency would create over 11 million additional energy sector jobs.
