The commitment by all of Europe’s major utilities to become carbon neutral “well before 2050” will transform society and have worldwide repercussions, European Commission vice-president Maros Sefcovic told industry leaders last night (Thursday).
The Vision for the European Electricity Industry document — which was unveiled by electricity trade association Eurelectric in December after being unanimously approved by utilities and national electricity associations — will ensure that Europe remains the global leader in clean energy, an audience of about 200 senior managers and chief executives were told at a Eurelectric gathering in Brussels to celebrate the signing of the document.
