Italian utility Enel was again an aggressive bidder in Mexico’s long-term energy tender last year, contracting a total of 593MW of wind and shocking the global renewable energy community with record low prices of below $20/MWh for output from its turbines.

Since 2007, when the company first entered the country, it has invested more than $1.5bn, and when tenders started in 2016 it went in hard, contracting over 1GW.
