In a shock decision, New Hampshire regulators have rejected the Northern Pass transmission project, backed by US utility Eversource and Canada’s Hydro-Québec, which only last week prevailed as the only winner in Massachusetts’ landmark 83D clean-energy tender.

Northern Pass aims to deliver nearly 1.1GW of hydropower from Hydro-Québec in Canada, down through New Hampshire and then into Massachusetts. The project beat out rival bids that included substantial amounts of new onshore wind capacity.
