Despite the Trump administration’s decision to impose tariffs on US solar hardware imports, the overall impact on the US power market is expected to be relatively minor, analysts say, with PV set to remain one of the largest sources of new generation capacity for the foreseeable future.

The new solar tariffs, which will start at 30% for most imported cells and modules before phasing down to 15% over a four-year period, will shrink total US solar installations by 11% over the next five years compared to a no-tariffs scenario, according to GTM Research.
