Abu Dhabi renewable energy company Masdar has inked a collaborative deal with Norwegian offshore wind developer Statoil to analyse data from the latter’s pioneering Batwind installation – an onshore battery station built to store energy generated by Hywind Scotland, the 30MW floating wind array switched on in the North Sea last October.

The deal, which builds on Masdar’s investment in 2017 to take a 25% stake in the floating wind project, will see the two companies investigate how the battery storage can aid the operational and cost efficiency of offshore wind farms.
