Falling equipment costs and technology innovation helped solar capacity additions in developing countries surge by more than half in 2016, Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) said in its annual Climatescope report.

Incremental solar capacity installed in 71 emerging economies jumped to 34GW last year, from 22GW in 2015 and just 3GW in 2011, BNEF calculated in the Climatescope project that assesses global clean energy markets annually.
