EU Parliament backs more ambitious 35% 2030 renewables goal

The European Parliament voted to back a binding EU target of at least 35% renewables in its energy mix by 2030, in a move applauded by the wind industry and others.

The vote on Tuesday by the parliament’s industry and energy committee sees the EU’s elected members take a far more ambitious stance than the European Commission, the bloc’s executive arm, which currently proposes a 27% goal.
