The European Commission (EC) in its ‘clean mobility package’ has proposed new targets for EU-wide CO2 emissions of new cars and vans, to help meet the bloc's 2030 target under the Paris climate agreement of an at least 40% cut in CO2.

Renewables groups have criticised the proposal as not ambitious enough to reach the Paris targets, while German media report the proposals were watered down after heavy lobbying by Europe’s powerful car industry.
