For the first time since the start of its clean-energy boom in 2009, Latin America is facing a deep political change as, over the next two years, more than 300 million people will chose new political leaders — and directions — amid growing dissatisfaction, mistrust of the ruling political elites and the troubles typical of slowing economies.

The region’s excellent wind and solar resources, solid track records and well-designed tender policies, with little dependence on government budgets, are seen as factors that will make renewable-energy policies from Mexico to Argentina resilient.
