French power giant EDF Group has entered the Egyptian renewable energy market via a deal to build and operate a pair of 50MW solar plants in the south of the country.

The projects, part of the 1.8GW Benban solar complex located in Assouan, will be developed by subsidiary EDF Energies Nouvelles (EDF EN) working with Elsewedy Electric, with construction slated to start in Q1 next year.
