Plans for hydrogen to play a pivotal role alongside offshore wind in Europe’s energy future were underlined, as Netherlands gas grid operator Gasunie was named the latest member of the North Sea Wind Power Hub consortium and hailed for its power-to-gas expertise.

Gasunie joined Dutch-German transmission system operator TenneT and Denmark’s Energienet.dk in the group, which has ambitious plans to create offshore islands off Europe’s coasts able to support the interconnection of 100GW of offshore wind capacity.
