A group of European renewable energy trade bodies have issued a strongly-worded joint statement urging the European Parliament against taking measures to abolish priority dispatch rules for renewables.

A draft report by the European Parliament’s lead negotiator on reforms to the EU electricity market proposes changes to the current dispatching regime for generators using renewable energy sources.

Krisjanis Karins, a Latvian MEP, is backing the idea of abolishing the first call on grid access enjoyed by renewables projects, arguing that its removal would give all producers an incentive to balance supply and demand.
