The DOE earlier this month announced $56m for concentrating solar power (CSP) technology research; $25m to help Soitech build a concentrating PV (CPV) factory in San Diego; $8m in funding for nine startup companies in the SunShot Incubator; and a $10m competition aimed at driving the installed cost of rooftop solar to $2 per watt.
Through its SunShot initiative, launched in early 2011, the DOE aims to foster a solar industry that can generate electricity at costs competitive with conventional power by 2020.
The
