SMart Wind, led by Mainstream Renewable Power and Siemens Project Ventures, says the prototype foundation, based on three supporting legs angled around a central pile, promises to significantly reduce costs.
It is a finalist in the UK Carbon Trust’s Offshore Wind Accelerator competition to find innovative and cost-effective wind turbine foundation designs for deeper water, and evaluation of its performance on the met mast will be a key part of the process.
