Installation work at the US' landmark Vineyard Wind 1 offshore wind farm will test new technology that promises to streamline construction during the country’s coming gigascale build-out, with main project contractor DEME having signed a deal for innovative kit key to a Jones Act-compliant ‘feeder barge’ solution.

Barge Master’s motion compensating BM T700 (see panel below), a hydraulic attachment fitted to transport units that make it possible to quickly and safely transfer towers to wind turbine installation vessels (WTIV) at sea, will be integrated into barges being supplied by US-based Foss Maritime to handle the 800MW project’s 13MW GE Haliade-Xs.
