The Japanese consortium comprises Idemitsu Kosan, Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding and Japan Wind Development. Idemitsu Kosan is a leading Japanese energy company; Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding is a major industrial business focused on machinery and shipbuilding; and Japan Wind Development primarily develops and operates wind power stations.
The initial phase of the project will be for US-based OPT to work with the consortium and the Japanese government in identifying favourable sites and assess the commercial prospects for wave power stations off Japan.
