Unveiled in 2009, the W2Power concept is based around a “large but lightweight” three-column semi-submersible hull with conventional three-bladed wind turbines mounted on two corners of the triangular structure. The three sides of the tubular steel platform are arrayed with banks of six small wave-energy converters (WECs).

The Norwegian ocean-energy technology developer envisages using a pair of medium-sized wind turbines on the floater, probably akin to Siemens’ or Shanghai Electric’s 3.6MW
