Developer SPG Solar is angling for an installation that will prove that the concept’s cost can be brought down to compete with conventional ground-mounted systems.

The latest vintage of the company’s Floatovoltaics technology — which uses a moored design that mates PV panels on galvanised steel racking with high-density polyethylene pontoons — is progressing with tests of a 350kW proto-array at a site in Petaluma, California, in the run-up to a first, full-scale 1MW installation.
