Developed by Scotland’s Artemis Intelligent Power, the digital displacement drivetrain is based on high-pressure oil-hydraulic concepts used in many industries’ motors, brakes, fluid couplings or torque-limiting technologies — and even the main power transmission at the heart of the unsuccessful Bendix 3MW prototype of the early 1980s.

What marks the new system as different is the switch from flow control of the hydraulic oil using mechanical parts to computer-controlled valves.
