Plans to build a market-changing “multi-hundred-MW” tidal power plant off the west coast of France have been formalised with the signing of a joint venture (JV) agreement between developer Simec Atlantis Energy (SAE), regional development agency AD Normandie Développement and investment fund Normandie Participations.

The new JV, called Normandie Hydrolienne, now aims to begin site development, permitting and consenting works for the project, off Raz Blanchand, with a view to having the first array of the phased development in operation by 2021, followed by “larger projects” from 2022, to create what would be Europe’s largest tidal power project .
