The Public Service Commission must approve the projects, which Mississippi Power hopes to have in commercial operation in 2016. It will receive the electricity and renewable energy credits the projects will generate.
"Together these new solar facilities can produce the amount of energy used annually by approximately 7,800 homes,” says Mississippi Power chief executive Ed Holland.
The utility is partnering with turn-key solar provider Strata Solar on the larger project, which will be located near Hattiesburg, in southeastern Mississippi.
