Calisolar, a California-based maker of solar silicon, wafers and cells, already has silicon manufacturing in the Canadian province through subsidiary 6N Silicon. The plant is currently in the process of expanding to a capacity of 1,300 metric tons a year, enough for roughly 150MW of solar PV capacity, Bret Adams, Calisolar director of marketing, tells Recharge.
The deal with Suntech – in the form of a letter of intent announced this week – would “significantly expand” the plant beyond the current ongoing expansion, Adams says.
