The Chinese company has stopped production of thin-film panels at its Shanghai plant to focus on the manufacture of crystalline silicon solar cells.
As a result, the solar giant expects to "incur a thin-film equipment impairment charge of approximately $50m to $55m", a statement said.
Suntech also expects to incur charges of $106m to $126m related to an investment in PV company Shunda.
