SunEdison wins PV project in South Africa bid round

The Droogfontein 2 project represents 20% of the total solar capacity allocated to preferred bidders in the round.

It will be located 20km south of Kimberly in Northern Cape Province and produce enough energy to power the equivalent of 45,000 South African homes.

Eskom, the South African national utility, will purchase the solar energy under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA). A SunEdison subsidiary will operate and maintain the project.
