SES has an exclusive, worldwide development right to the technology, which concentrates sunlight on high-efficiency solar cells and is known as XR700. The Scottsdale, Arizona,-based company will partner with Boeing on developing the technology toward commercial-scale deployment – a process expected to take two years. SES’s sister company, Tessera Solar, will handle power facility development, construction and operation.
The high-concentration photovoltaic (HCPV) technology stems from work Boeing began in 2007 through the US Department of Energy Solar Technologies Program.
