The companies signed a letter of intent to form SolarHybrid of America, which would develop, build and manage both stand-alone PV and hybrid PV-CSP projects. Using both technologies “will allow us to achieve better cost and production efficiencies than with either technology on its own”, says Uwe Schmidt, Solar Trust of America (STA) chief executive, in a statement.
STA, a joint venture between Germany’s Solar Millennium AG and Dutch engineering giant Ferrostaal, is developing the Blythe Solar Power Project, a 1GW CSP plant in the California desert that would be the largest in the world.
