STA in line for $2.1bn loan guarantee for Blythe solar

Solar Trust of America, the joint venture between Germany’s Solar Millennium AG and Dutch engineering giant Ferrostaal, is the latest recipient of a massive loan-guarantee offer from the US government.

The company is in line for government backing of $2.1bn in loans to build the first half of its planned 1GW Blythe Solar Power Project in California.

Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced the conditional offer, which is the largest yet for a renewable energy project, surpassing even the $1.6bn for BrightSource Energy’s Ivanpah project, also in California, which closed its financing last week.
