SolarWorld, Germany’s third-largest solar company by revenue, made the announcement at a ceremony marking the opening of its new 210,000-square-foot module factory in Hillsboro, Oregon.

The factory is adjacent to SolarWorld’s existing 480,000-square-foot wafer and cell production facility opened in late 2008, giving the company the first single-site location in the US capable of making monocrystalline solar panels from scratch.

The newly announced module facility will take SolarWorld’s production capacity in the US to 500MW, adding to its 150MW plant in Camarillo, California.
