The latest is the 500MW Amargosa Farm Road project in the Amargosa Valley, northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada. US Interior Secretary Ken Salazar gave his approval Monday to the project, consisting of a pair of parabolic trough solar plants, with 4.5 hours of thermal energy storage, to be built on 6,320 acres (25.6sq km) of federal land.
It is the second large-scale solar project to be approved on federal lands in Nevada and the eighth to get Salazar’s blessing since October.
