Israel, seen as a promising emerging solar market, intends to dip its toes into the solar-thermal pond through the construction of two 120MW CSP plants near the southern town of Ashalim by 2014.

The plants will require an estimated $750m in capital investment. Solar Millennium and Ormat have concentrated their bid on ‘plot A’, a spokesman tells Recharge.

Israel’s CSP tender has been repeatedly delayed since its original April deadline passed, though it is expected to close by the end of the year.
