Photowatt, owned by Canada’s ATS Automation Tooling Systems, produced just 3MW of modules in January – equivalent to roughly 55% of its intended output.
Last month ATS revealed plans to cut 95 permanent manufacturing jobs and 136 temporary positions in France, saying that it may create 100 new sales and administrative positions if the restructuring strategy finds traction.
Ontario-based ATS says Photowatt has become a dead weight within the group, as it has been unable to lower its production costs as quickly as Asian – and even other European – rivals in recent years.
