Despite its immense oil resource the kingdom has made increasingly forceful noises about its desire to tap its potential for solar energy – particularly for off-grid applications and water desalination.
Like other Middle Eastern oil exporters, the country is also keen to make the most use of its solar resources in order to maximise its fossil fuel exports.
