NRG Renew, the unit of NRG Energy which builds and operates large renewables plants, will convert its Blythe II location in the Sonoran Desert into a solar plant by the end of 2016. The power will be sold to Cisco to offset the electricity it consumes at its  headquarters in San Jose, California.

NRG, which is the largest IPP in the US on top of its retail energy businesses, has signed renewables deals with a number of large corporations over the last few years, including Unilever, MGM Resorts, and Kaiser Permanente.
