The company today formally changed its name from Tata BP Solar to Tata Power Solar, bringing closure to the joint venture founded in 1989 in which the British oil and gas giant held a 51% stake.
Tata Power Solar immediately named Ajay Goel, a veteran of SunEdison and BrightSource, as its first chief executive. Long-time Tata BP Solar chief executive K Subramanya departed earlier this year amid a wider restructuring effort, and chief financial officer D Guru had been leading the company on an interim basis.
