The all-share acquisition catapults Meyer Burger – which makes precision saws for slicing silicon wafers – to the forefront of both the crystalline and thin-film module-assembly markets, while offering 3SI greatly expanded access to Meyer Burger's Asian customers.
The combined firm will have annual revenues of approximately 447m Swiss francs based on 2008 figures, putting it behind only US-based Applied Materials and Swiss competitor Oerlikon Solar, according to market researcher VLSI.
