The authorities rejected the investment application to discourage panel makers from trying to avoid US and European anti-dumping tariffs on Chinese PV kit by assembling modules in the country, The Malaysian Reserve claims.
The newspaper quoted an official from the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) as saying that the government is worried that allowing Chinese companies to use the country to dodge trade duties could lead the US and European authorities to slap similar restrictions on Malaysian solar manufacturers.
