Libya has chosen Abu Dhabi’s Al Maskari Holdings to build a $3bn energy hub to boost domestic supplies and eventually flow electricity across the Mediterranean to Europe.
The project will include both renewable energy and conventional power generation from fuels such as natural gas, as well as a high-voltage subsea transmission line linking Libya to Italy’s grid.
“Libya is a source for clean energy – we can export energy to all of Europe,” says Jamal Ellamushe, Libya’s minister of privatisation and investment.
