LDK, the world’s biggest wafer manufacturer, saw its gross margins fall by half in the fourth quarter as wafer prices declined from $0.91 to $0.83. The company did grow wafer shipments 33.8% over the fourth quarter of 2008 to 340.4MW.

This deal with Phoenix would equal about two-thirds of the company’s first-quarter module shipments, which it said last month would be in the range of 25MW-30MW.
