LDK Solar to build new cell and module factory in Anhui province

China’s LDK, the world’s largest maker of solar wafers, has unveiled plans for a massive new cell and module factory as it fast-forwards its plans to become a vertically integrated PV player.

LDK says it has been invited to build a factory with a capacity of 1GW for cells and 500MW for modules at a new renewables manufacturing hub going up in Anhui province.

The Hefei High-Tech Construction and Investment Group, a government body, has offered LDK with 2.5bn yuan ($367.3m) in loans to build the facility, which will commence production in mid 2011.
