Q-Cells originally offered the money as an advanced payment for raw materials, but relations between the two firms stumbled off a cliff last year when the German solar giant shredded their long-term wafer-supply contract.
That contract, signed in late 2007, saw LDK committing to deliver wafers totalling 43,000 metric tonnes – or the equivalent of 6GW – to Q-Cells between 2009 and 2018.
