A stunning 975MW of capacity was added in Italy during the fourth quarter, compared to 288MW during the same period last year, as developers raced to qualify for 2010’s generous feed-in tariff (FIT).
The fourth quarter was a “breakthrough” for the Italian market, according to iSuppli principal PV analyst Henning Wicht, who believes the country padded on 1.9GW of capacity in 2010 – or nearly 1GW per quarter – compared to 720MW in 2009.
