According to an update of analyst IHS's study The Price of Solar, since the beginning of 2015, Chinese Tier 1 manufacturers have cut costs by 10% to $0.44 per Watt (W), while Tier 1 producers in other Asian countries achieved a 13% reduction to $0.49/W, and Tier 1 manufacturers in the rest of the world only 8% to $0.57/W.
IHS analysed the production costs of nine global manufacturers it considers to be representative of the high-quality market: Trina Solar, JA Solar, Jinko Solar and Canadian Solar of China; REC and Hanwha Q Cells for elsewhere in Asia; and SolarWorld, Kyocera and Sharp for the rest of the world.
