For the next three years – coinciding with the mission’s first phase – the power-trading arm of Indian state-run power utility NTPC will buy solar-generated electricity at a fixed rate determined by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC).
In September the CERC indicated it would pay 18.80 rupees ($0.41) per kilowatt hour (one unit) of solar electricity in order to kick start the Solar Mission and rapidly boost installed capacity.
