Eicke Weber, head of Germany's Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems, tells Recharge that after a watershed year in 2016, when global demand for PV panels will meet supply, the coming years will present a golden opportunity for manufacturers to set up new factories.
However, given a scaling back of support for solar in Europe, he expects much of the up-to-60GW in new manufacturing capacity will be built elsewhere, with great chances for the Middle East, Africa and Turkey.
