Scheer, a member of German parliament since 1980, was the principal architect of Germany’s pioneering Renewable Energy Act, which formalized the system of feed-in tariffs for renewables that have since been implemented in 50 countries around the world.
In addition to his political duties, Scheer was at the time of his death president of European Association for Renewable Energy (Eurosolar) and general chairman of the World Council for Renewable Energy.
