In response to the falling price of solar modules, Germany on 1 September imposed a one-off cut of 11-16% in its PV feed-in tariff (FIT). This comes on top of long-planned cuts already in place for 2009, 2010 and 2011.
While tens of thousands of German jobs are linked directly to the solar sector, the government has grown increasingly uneasy with the fact that Germany soaks up half of global module output – even as many manufacturing jobs shift to Asia.
